Coaching is the least natural thing to do in our business. We have all read about the benefits of coaching and how it impacts individuals and business performance. One area that I believe we forget is that it also impacts the Coach.
“We often find in attempting to teach others that we gain instruction for ourselves.”
“Morning and Evening,” written by C.H. Spurgeon, revised and updated by Alistair Begg
So, if Coaching has such a broad benefit, why is it so hard to implement in our routine as we maneuver the PATH we are on? Today we will not address all of the obstacles, but peer into one that I believe is a central issue that we must overcome.
Have you Contended to Coach? By definition Contending is to assert something as a position in an argument. Synonyms would be assert, maintain, hold, claim, argue, insist, state, declare, profess, affirm.
Until we Contend to Coach, it will continue to be a “thing” and not a reality. Coaching will be something we read about, aspire to one day, and be a part of and engage in.
To Contend to Coach will take action, commitment, desire, and drive. Maybe today you are not coaching because you do not know how, cannot see the benefit, or you just can’t find the time in your day. These are all valid obstacles to not Coach, but how long will this highly beneficial engagement tool be left out of your PATH?
Today, can you take the first step to Contend to Coach and set some goals to overcome the obstacles that block you? Again, the benefits are far reaching and will help you, your team, and your business navigate the PATH from Here to THERE.
