Let’s be very clear that no one has any more time in their day than anyone else. We are all very busy, however we need to take time each day and at every encounter to “learn just one thing”.
Obviously, we could focus on things that we could learn about our business, processes, operations, logistics, etc… but for today, let’s focus on the people we encounter each day.
It could be a random meeting with someone on an elevator or in line at a store or at the gym. But sometimes those conversations are short and not very deep. There are those encounters we have every day at work. You know, the people you engage every day in the cubicle next to you, those that may report to you, the managers, owners, dock workers, service staff and even the service organizations that serve your business. People that occupy a similar space as you, as you endeavor to make a living and career.
Are we learning just one thing about them? What is the one thing you know about someone you work with that you never knew? How did you come to know that one thing? Are you asking questions are you interested in them as a person? Are you following up on some of those deep conversations to demonstrate pure compassion?
Like we said, we are all busy, but never too busy to learn just one thing. Today “learn just one thing”; it could make someone’s day.
